Mr. Yashenko's First Grade Page
Welcome to our new Wiki page! I am excited to share many of the wonderful things happening in our classroom!

What's New In December:
Language Arts:
This month students will use the sequencing skills they learned in November to learn how to effectively retell a story. Retelling a story helps children create their own understanding of the text. A retelling can be done with both fiction and non-fiction books. A Story Map is a great tool to help students retell a story. Click below to view two examples:
Below students use a Story Map to help them retell the story of the Gingerbread Man.

Math:
During December students will work on Geometry and more problem solving.

Below students use pattern blocks to make different shapes, draw them, and then count the number of sides.

Science:
During December and January students will learn all about the weather. They will become Meteorologists and study different types of percipitation, clouds, temperature, and even conduct experiments to understand how important the weather is to our lives.
