    World Language Department Letter

    September 2, 2008

    Dear Parents,

The World Language Department, grades 3 through 12 is pleased to have your child enrolled in a language course this year.

All World Language students in Region #10 are developing their proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing French and/or Spanish. As our students continue their studies through the World Language sequence, their skill level in these areas increases. The cumulative nature of language acquisition means that each consecutive year of study, the students refine and expand their proficiency using the previous years’ work as a base.

Understanding and speaking skills are developed primarily during class time with the teacher as the expert model. Active class participation in the target language is essential for mastering these skills and will therefore be evaluated daily.

Proficiency in reading and writing depends largely on the individual student’s work. World Language students can expect regular homework assignments to hone these skills.

We look forward to seeing you on at Open House at all four schools. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your student’s World Language teacher or feel free to call me at 673-0423, ext. 5412 or e-mail me at lapmane@region10ct.org.

On behalf of the World Language Department, we wish your student a bonne année/ buen año for the 2008-2009 school year!

    Sincerely,

    Elizabeth K. Lapman

    Region #10 World Language Coordinator
