I am pleased that your child has shown an interest in instrumental music instruction. Instrumental lessons are offered to students in grade 4 beginning in October. Lessons are thirty minutes long, once a week during the school day and are taught in a small group of like instruments. For example, there may be 5-7 flute students in one lesson. It is during this time that students will learn a new aspect of playing the instrument such as, new notes or rhythms and simple tunes. All students are required to practice 100 minutes per week. The home practice time reinforces the lessons taught in school. We recommend a 20 minute per night practice time as homework rather than twice a week for an hour at a time.
The last day to sign up for instrumental music is September 24th. The students signing up for drums will be given an audition on Tuesday, September 21st at Harwinton School and Friday, September 24th at Lake Garda. Any student interested in playing the drums should return the green or blue sign up sheet by Sept. 20th. Remember, we must limit the number of drummers in the band program. Students who do not pass the audition will still have the opportunity to play another instrument if they wish.
Students listen and watch the instrument demo. ( September )
