JSchilling

Welcome to my Wiki.

My name is Jason Schilling. I am the Certified Apple Technician for Regional School District # 10. I service all of the Apple computers throughout all four schools in the District.

In a typical day, I will do anything from software installation and configuration, to replacing the logic board in an iBook G4. Most of my work entails intense hardware repair and part replacement, and I am very busy keeping up with the maintenance on the hundreds of Macs our students use every day.

That said, I love the work I do. It is a different challenge every day, and I look forward to coming to work every morning. I solve problems. I keep the cost of the increasing amount of technology in our school system down, by repairing what was once replaced. All electronic devices break down at some point, it is an inevitability, but I spend my day ensuring that the lives of those devices are as long as possible, to get the greatest value out of the resources that we have available.

A little bit more about me:
I am an Alumnus of Lake Garda Elementary School, Har-Bur Middle School, and Lewis S. Mills High School. So much has changed since I attended school here, but it is all for the better. It is so nice to see some familiar faces, however, and some of my former teachers are now my new co-workers. I am very impressed with the efforts that have been made here at Region 10 to introduce technology into the classrooms, and educational lives of the students now attending school here. I still remember when Lake Garda got its very first computer, and it's interesting to say the least, to have watched the evolution of that process and how technology has affected all of our lives over the years.

Prior to my employment at Region 10, I worked for CompUSA in Manchester, as their only Apple Certified Laptop & Desktop Technician. I was fortunate enough to avoid most of the fiasco of CompUSA going out of business, but am still saddened that so many talented and hard-working people lost their jobs because of the greed of 3.

I spent three and a half years repairing Windows PCs and Macs as the Tech Shop's Lead Technician. Even though I didn't have an A+ Certification, I had far more hands-on experience as a self-taught PC Tech, than most of the other techs who did have their A+ Certification. We saw a lot of interesting problems, and found our own solutions for them, answered a lot of good questions, and learned a whole lot in that tech shop. You tend to see a wide variety of technology problems there that you might not get experience with anywhere else. All said and done, it was a fun ride, though stressful as any retail job is, and I am glad to be doing something different. It cannot be said enough however, that I am thankful for the experience CompUSA provided me, and I will miss all the brilliant people there.

Outside of work, I am even more geeky. I have a total of 14 computers at home, not including my work laptop. I like to play video games, including Crysis, Guitar Hero III for PC, and Counter-Strike: Source. I have an 802.11N network with Gigabit hardwired throughout my house in Burlington, an Xbox running Linux and Xbox Media Center, and everything is all tied together nicely with a central Dual Xeon Processor Server which gives me access to all of my files throughout the house, and anywhere in the world that has internet access.
To magnify all that, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but we won't get into that too much here. I'm a big movie buff all around, but SciFi is my favorite.

That's me in a nutshell!
