I've had a number of questions from teachers about emailing XML and XLS files.
Sometimes Entourage has issues with these files.
First I would suggest that you check a setting in your Entourage preferences:
Attachments MUST be set for Windows MIME/Base64 encoding to be communicated properly on the Region 10 networks. Making sure this is set properly will alleviate most issues people are having with attachments.
If not, you can always COMPRESS a file before you attach it, which negates the potential security problems associated with attaching files that may potentially contain a virus, or self-running macros or code. Here's a PDF tutorial I whipped up on how to compress a file in Mac OS X.
