Homework 6 Artist's Paper


2-3 page paper on the artist of your choice. 


word bank: Principles of Design:  Pattern, Contrast, Rhythm, Emphasis, Movement, Balance.

                   Elements of Art:         Color, LIne, Shape, Value, Form, Texture, Space. 




Please write a paper using the rubric provided on the artist of your choice.

Be sure to use a critical stance and support your statements with facts. Tell whether or not you like his or her work and why. When doing this use the art terms in the word bank. Make sure that you use them correctly to describe the art. Be sure to use an artist's vocabulary. Be specific. If you feel that you wish to do extra credit for the marking period, you can do extra on this paper to raise your art grade. 

A grade level paper has:

*No plagiarism
*Will express an opinion as to the value of the artist's work and/or compare their work to other artists or that of their own. 
*Will be at least 2 pages of typing before the addition of pictures which are optional.
*Will use quotes and cite legitimate sources for any copied material
*Will have used words from the word bank in correct context to talk about the artists work. 

A paper below grade level may have:

*plagiarism

*Be less than 2 pages typed and/or use pictures instead of works to achieve the required number of pages.

*Will use random facts without purpose. Example: The number of children that an artist had is not important to me. The fact that he painted abstractly is. 

*Will use words from the word bank incorrectly or without exhibiting understanding. Example: "I like the colors the artist used." (Incorrect) "The artist used dark colors to set a somber mood."(Correct)



A paper above grade level may have:

* Multiple analogies drawn between several artists or opinions formed between various works. 

* Be longer than the required 2-3 pages.

*Include pictures that the student is referencing

*Use a critical stance to respond to the artist's work throughout the paper. 

*Will have correctly used the words from the word bank to show synthesis of understanding. Example: Matisse used large blocks of color to balance active areas of shapes in an asymmetrical composition. 


Papers must be turned in on time. Extensions will not be given for any reason past the end of the rotation.
