Course Overview
Students during the year will be engaged in a combination of reading and writing curriculum.
In the area of reading students will look at various genres and
literary elements (character devleopment, theme, setting, etc.)in a novel. As a
class we will read between 5-6 in class books and students will also be
asked to read 4 independent books (Info on this will be posted in
Independent Reading Projects Section).
For the writing aspect of the class students will look closely at
how to effectively create/write a persuasive essay. A major portion of
the class is dedicated to how studets can form and support their
opinion(s). There will be opportunities on class projects to do other
forms of writing, specifically creative.
Also for middle school students I think it is important to know who
and what you value as an individual. Therefore, throughout the course
of the year students will be looking closely at the concept of
self-identity. Students will began the year by thinking about what
self-identity means, their own self-identity, and how this topic comes
into play in the literary world.
