Dear Class,
Each year my family and I go on vacation to Cape Cod. We usually stay in East Dennis or Brewster. Well, something very exciting happened this year when we were on vacation! We were playing on our favorite beach called, Sea Street beach and we came across a lost puppy! He is a Husky Dog. That is the same type of dog that our school has as a mascot. We searched all over for the owner of this lost dog. We called the local veterinarians and posted signs all over the streets. Nobody claimed him! So, we decided that it would be great to bring him back to Connecticut with us to be our very own classroom mascot!
We’ve discovered that this lovable pup loves to go places! He loves to play at the beach and go on hikes and long walks. He even came with us to meet the famous children’s author, Tomie de Paulo. He is the author of Strega Nona! We even got to take a picture with him and Tomie de Paulo! This little dog is so much fun to have around.
I need your help, though. First, we need to figure out what to name this little fur ball. Each person in our class will get a chance to write about what we should name him. In your writing give 3 reasons why you think your name is the best name for our mascot.
Next, I’m looking for puppy sitters on the weekends. He comes with a backpack filled with fun books about Husky’s and this journal to write in. In the journal you may write about your adventures of the weekend. You can even include pictures! I am asking that each student sign up at least 1 time this school year.
Well, I hope you enjoy this little fellow as much as we do! I can’t wait to read about all of the adventures and places that he visits with you and your family this year. Thanks for your help!

This is Tomie de Paulo!! He is the famous children's author. He has written Strega Nona, The Popcorn Book and many other treasured favorites. We met him this summer at the Brewster Book Store in Brewster, MA. It was very exciting. Our little pup enjoyed it very much.
