    My Biography:

    Miss Cleveland teaches the eighth grade UA music classes in addition to teaching one of the seventh Music Experience classes and the sixth grade chorus. She is a product of the Region 10 school system and is happy to be back here as a teacher. She has been teaching in this district since 2004. She has also taught general music classes at Lake Garda for one year, as well as sixth grade instrumental lessons at Har-Bur Middle School. She has directed the Fourth Grade Band and taught general music classes at Harwinton Consolidated School as well. She is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University, and she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. She also holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Central Connecticut State University. She enjoys traveling, cooking, biking, reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family and friends.

    Course Descriptions:

    6th Grade Chorus

    The sixth grade chorus meets four out of the six days of the scheduled rotation. The sixth graders will be singing a variety of different pieces of music and will be performing at two concerts this year. The first concert will be held on December 18th, and the second will be held in May.

    We will be working on the following items in chorus:

    *Learning and practicing good posture
    *Learning to appreciate a variety of styles of music
    *Developing the proper singing technique
    *Basic rhythmic reading
    *Basic music fundamentals

    The grading policy for this course is as follows:

    *Class Performance- 35%
    *Etiquette- 35%
    *Classwork- 10%
    *Concert Grade (Attendance and performance)- 20%

    Concerts are a very important part of the chorus experience because it showcases all of the work the students have been doing in the months leading up to it.


    7th Grade Music Experience

    This course meets two out of the six days of the scheduled rotation and is a year-long course. In this class, the students will be studying the history of jazz musicians and creating a brochure to show what they have learned. They will also be creating and performing rhythms in groups. The students will work with the music software program Garage Band to create their own melodies. Critically listening to and analyzing music will be occurring on a regular basis as well.

    The grading policy for this course is as follows:

    Class Work- 50%
    Projects- 25%
    Quizzes- 15%
    Class Performance- 10%

    8th Grade UA

    This course meets three out of the six days of the scheduled rotation and is a quarter-long course. This class teaches the students how to create rhythms and song lyrics, as well as work with the music software program Garage Band to create their own movie soundtracks. The students will also be studying the history of the rock musicians of their choice and doing a visual presentation for the class. Critically listening to and analyzing music will be an activity that will be occurring on a regular basis in this class as well.

    The grading policy for this course is as follows:

    Class Work- 35%
    Projects- 50%
    Class Performance- 15%
